Relaxation of Medical Exams on Renewal

In normal circumstances, when making an application to renew a lorry/bus licence at the age of 45 or over, the applicant must include a medical examination report signed by a doctor.

Because of the restrictions doctors cannot carry out these examinations, and so any license that is expired or is due to expire on or after 1 January 2020 will not be required to complete this medical examination report.

However, note that where a bus or lorry licence has been renewed without the production of a valid medical certificate, it will only be valid for a period of one year – and after that year a medical examination report will be required.
